As a Jewish man, the abandoned Vidin synagogue, played an important role in the development of Jonah's large scale charcoal collection. Specifically, Jonah took interest in the the concept of erasure. Jonah crafted his works by using brooms and vacuums to apply and remove charcoal. Jonah chose to photograph these within the abandoned synagogue of Vidin to bring further meaning to the concept of erasure.
